DUNASKOMEL
HIGH ASKOMIL
CAMPBELTOWN

Dunaskomel enjoys a stunning elevated position with open aspects to the front over Campbeltown Loch and beyond to Ben Ghuilean and Davaar Island. High Askomil is considered by local residents to be one of the most cherished addresses in Campbelltown.  Campbelltown is on the shores of Campbeltown Loch on the Kintyre peninsula. Originally known as Kinlochkilkerran (the head of the loch by the church of St. Kieran), it was renamed in the 17th century and became an important centre for ship building, whisky and fishing. Campbeltown is one of a handful of areas in Scotland categorised as a whisky producing region and is home to the Campbeltown Single Malt. At one time the town had 34 distilleries and proclaimed itself “the whisky capital of the world”. The town boasts two distilleries as well as a museum and a heritage centre. Other attractions in the burgh include The Wee Picture Cinema, which dates from 1913, and a new Recreation Centre, incorporating a fitness centre, swimming pool, café and library.  Campbeltown lies at the east end of the low lying part of Kintyre, the western end being occupied by Machrihanish Airfield, which boasts one of the longest runways in the country, with air services to Glasgow International Airport.  Campbeltown is a thriving, high amenity town. The town is well served by many high street and local shops including supermarkets, garages, a college, schools, a medical centre/hospital and yacht club. Campbeltown is popular with tourists and has a variety of hotels and restaurants. The town holds an annual regatta and music festival. The famous Machrihanish championship links golf course was recently ranked 22nd by Golf Monthly Magazine out of the top 120 courses in the UK and Ireland.

Dunaskomel is thought to date from the mid 19th Century when it was built for local solicitor Mr McKelvie and his family. It is still
referred to locally as the Lawyers House to this day. It is a substantial three storey villa presented in good order offering flexible family and staff accommodation with 7 bedrooms and the main apartments designed to take full advantage over its captivating views over Campelltown Loch. Of particular note is the subjects drawing room which not only retains much of its period character but also it's original first floor position and some of the best views in the house.  Dunaskomel is surrounded by mainly lawned gardens which are spilt into two main levels with a substantial walled garden to the rear.
